coordinates
We had a quiet walk along the beach to an unassuming spot at the oceanside, where we spread my mother-in-law's ashes. There is no marker to revisit, but we did mark the coordinates. There was also a sign noting that it was right at the spot of a protected sea turtle nesting area. She would have, without a doubt, loved that. The next day was rainy, so I spent the morning painting a little watercolor from a picture I took of the spot. It felt like a better keepsake than my phone's generalized photo of the beach. Spending the morning after a goodbye like that, sitting next to my son, who was painting his own little "beach picture" and marking a place that will always hold a place for us, felt special.
