first weekend of the new year - 2022

My last new year post was in 2020, and I had so much positivity as we rolled into a new decade! And then, well, we all know what happened. I missed last year because it was all still pretty overwhelming and I was too tired to care that it was a new year. But this year there is a little more space to see what has been learned and has changed. To reflect on survival and being proud of what we have been able to do. To truly realize what matters most and to have missed things I never realized I would. And while I’m hesitant to feel too hopeful, I at least feel connected.

We had a wonderful holiday season and a pretty solid start to the new year. A lowkey NYE with the dearest friend and took part in our favorite fried chicken and champagne, with oysters added in this year. And ringing it in at home was pretty perfect for this stage of life. And then the weather was so lovely New Year’s Day we ventured out to play and fly a kite before cooler weather and rain rolled through.

The old me might have seen that as a good sign for the year ahead, but the version of me that has made it through the past two years is just thankful for a day to laugh and get outside. And for a chance to practice being in the moment and not overthink it too much. Cheers to the year ahead!
